You can do anything if you believe…..

Ever since I was a little girl I was told that I wasn’t going to amount to much in my life. I heard at home I was stupid or that I would never succeed. At school I always thought I was stupid because I couldn’t concentrate on my studies. Part of that was because I was hungry and the other part was truama. We know now that with truama you get stuck at a younger age and most of the time your in survival mode. Learning is not a priority.

I learned when I moved from Ireland to Canada that I was indeed smart. My brain had never been challenged in anything, so I had to teach it how to learn. Everything was hard when you come from nothing. I worked so hard to get to where I am today. I graduated from high school. I got a diploma in Early Childhood Education. I worked at many great places some were hard and tough but those were the places where I learned that I was not much different then the children who came. I understood that lack of trust and how when you were hungry the most important thing was food. I had a teacher tell me that I had to make sure the time the children came, that it was the best two and a half hours for them. I moved that forward in my entire career working with children. Those places are what shaped who I am today and my experiences gave me insight on children in trauma.

God gave me a huge heart for children especially those who need more. Once you build that trust and love no matter you are dealt, you then have a window into a child’s heart. That could be the changing thing in a child’s world. I’ve seen that many times. That’s what changed me and to this day I still remember those people. They loved a child who had no idea how to love themself.

When my marriage ended I was told again that I would not be able to make it on my own. I questioned myself but for the last 4 years going on five. I find myself doing things that I never thought I could do. I downsized a home we had lived in for 13 years. I brought my first car on my own. I rented by myself and look after my needs , my labradoodle and my rabbit. I have a huge support of my friends and a family who loves me.

I paid off some of my debts before we started this new year and I worked on how to better myself. I have a small business that I do to earn extra income. It’s called the Super Patch Company. It’s a company that helps others learn about wellness. I also have a boy who I love with all of my heart in my life. I do respite care for him and his family. That boy shows me everyday that there is nothing that you can’t do. He is my inspiration.

I have an amazing church that supports me in so many ways. I have a life group that I’ve belonged to for 7 years. A group of women who are like my family. We meet on zoom every week. We talk about life and about the Lord. I have friends all over the world that support and encourage me. My second family live in Oregon. I can’t wait to get back to see them. Thank you for speaking truth into my life. I look forward to hanging out and chatting, laughing and maybe even kayaking with you.

So those lies that I would never be able to make it in this life are BS. I’m looking forward to this year. My words for the year are Joy and Freedom. Don’t forget you can do anything if you believe.
